Bunnys?

White Rabbits. Can anyone tell me why my mum always said "white rabbits " on the 1st of March? it must have been some sort of superstition thing as she got a bit upset if she didn't say it!!

Ive looked on the Internet and cant find anything.Maybe she just liked white rabbits!

  1. I don't know the origin, either, but I have heard it in the many different parts of England that I've lived.

  4. It's an old custom, as you probably know, rabbits have always been considered (like cats) either an omen of good luck or bad luck.

It is thought that the repeating of 'rabbit, rabbit, rabbit' or 'white rabbits' as the first thing you say on the first of the month is a way of warding off bad luck for that month.

I suppose it's like the verbal form of carrying a rabbits foot around for good luck (which is thought to have been around since 600BC apparently).
